Indian boxers Shiva Thapa, Hussamuddin Mohammed, Deepak Kumar, and Nishant
Singh entered the round of 16 in their respective weight categories at the
ongoing AIBA World Boxing Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.
Hussamuddin, who competes in the bantamweight category, defeated
Kyrgyzstan’s Elnur Abduraimov in a closely contested bout, while Deepak
Kumar overcame Uzbekistan’s Shunkor Abdurasulov in the flyweight category.
Nishant Singh also secured a place in the round of 16 with a victory over
Australia’s Alex Winwood in the featherweight category.
Shiva Thapa, a former World Championships bronze medalist, also advanced to
the next round after his opponent, the Philippines’ Jere dela Cruz, was
disqualified for headbutting. The Indian boxers will now look to continue
their impressive performances and bring home medals for the country.
