Multiple ballistic missiles are fired by North Korea into the Pacific Ocean, and a “rare” EMERGENCY ALERT is issued by Japan.

The latest in a record-breaking year of missile tests by nuclear-armed
North Korea, the country launched multiple ballistic missiles on Thursday,
including one that prompted an emergency alert for inhabitants in regions
of central and northern Japan to take shelter.

The J-Alert Emergency Broadcasting System advised residents of the northern
Japanese prefectures of Miyagi, Yamagata, and Niigata to take refuge
inside.

Tokyo eventually denied the report, despite the first government alert that
a missile had overflew Japan. At 8:10 AM, the Japan Coast Guard
acknowledged that the rockets had touched down in the Pacific Ocean.
