On Wednesday, a pipe or tank containing liquid waste looked to have broken
near one of Egypt’s main thoroughfares at this year’s U.N. climate summit,
forcing attendees to step over streams of foul-smelling material.
This event was just the most recent of multiple infrastructural and
planning issues this week during the conference, which will last through
November 18. Participants have griped that they have to wait in long lines
in the sweltering Sinai sun just to get their hands on the basics like
water and food. There are periodic toilet paper shortages and floor damage
at many sites.
