On Monday, Chinese President Xi Jinping will fly to the Indonesian island
of Bali for a long-awaited meeting with U.S. Vice President Joe Biden. This
will take place just days before the Group of 20 (G20) summit, which is
expected to be fraught with tension over Russia’s war in Ukraine. Many of
the same problems that will hang over the G20 meeting that begins on
Tuesday without Russian President Vladimir Putin in attendance will be
discussed between the two leaders, including Taiwan, Russia’s invasion of
Ukraine, and North Korea’s nuclear ambitions.

Since Putin is supposedly too busy, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will
attend the G20 conference in Putin’s stead. This will be the first G20
gathering since February of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
