Kanchan Jariwala, a candidate for the Surat East Assembly seat for the Aam
Aadmi Party, withdrew his name from consideration for the upcoming Gujarat
elections, sparking a political controversy. On Wednesday, the Election
Commission requested the Gujarat chief electoral officer investigate claims
that the Aam Aadmi Party’s Surat (East) candidate was pressured into
withdrawing from the election. After conducting a demonstration outside the
EC office this afternoon, a four-member team of AAP led by Delhi Deputy
Chief Minister Manish Sisodia met with the officials this evening and gave
over a representation. Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia, leaders of the
Aam Aadmi Party, have claimed that the BJP “kidnapped” the AAP MP and
forced him to drop out of the race.
