Nord Stream pipelines delivering natural gas from Russia to Germany under
the Baltic Sea were attacked and damaged in September, and on Friday
Swedish officials confirmed that the attacks were deliberate acts of
sabotage.
Prosecutor Mats Ljungqvist, who is overseeing the preliminary
investigation, said in a statement that “the analyses conducted indicated
signs of explosives on many foreign objects” discovered at the incident
sites.
To “draw more reliable conclusions surrounding the occurrence,” Mr.
Ljungqvist said that technological analyses were proceeding.
According to the Swedish Prosecution Authority, “further inquiry will show
if someone can be formally suspected of a crime.”
