On Monday’s campaign trail for the Gujarat Assembly election, Congress
leader Rahul Gandhi said that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was
plotting to give over woods sacred to Adivasis, the “original proprietors
of the country,” to businessmen, displacing the Adivasis.
After the Gujarat Assembly election schedule was released earlier this
month, Rahul Gandhi held his first rallies, the first in Mahuva in the
Surat district and the second in Rajkot.
After meeting farmers, young people, and tribal people during his Bharat
Jodo Yatra, Rahul Gandhi claimed he understood their plight.
Furthermore, he said that the government’s actions divide the country into
“two Indias,” one populated by wealthy elites and the other by the
impoverished.
