In a glitzy ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday, President
Droupadi Murmu presented table tennis legend Achanta Sharath Kamal with
Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna, the country’s highest sporting honor.
Sharath is the only recipient of the Khel Ratna award. However, 25
sportsmen, including shuttlers Lakshya Sen and HS Prannoy, female boxer
Nikhat Zareen, and sprinters Eldhose Paul and Avinash Sable, were given the
Arjuna Award.
