Early on Wednesday morning, protest-torn Iran’s Kurdish region erupted in
celebration of the United States 2-1 victory over the Iranian national team
in a highly fraught World Cup match.
Following Iran’s 1-0 loss to Azerbaijan, fans took to the streets in the
province of Kurdistan, home to the country’s largest Kurdish population.
They set off fireworks in the Bukan region of West Azerbaijan province.
