Balloon Sinuplasty provides a minimally invasive alternative to conventional sinus surgery

For patients with chronic sinusitis, Balloon Sinuplasty provides a
minimally invasive alternative to conventional sinus surgery. Using this
new technology, physicians open blocked sinuses using a small, flexible
balloon catheter and guide wire inserted through the patient’s nostrils.
When gently inflated, the balloon opens the targeted sinus passageway and
restores normal sinus drainage and function.Compared to conventional sinus surgery, Balloon Sinuplasty offers a number
of advantages, including increased safety and effectiveness, reduced
bleeding and a faster recovery time. Additionally, Balloon Sinuplasty can
be used with other medical treatments or surgical techniques and does not
limit future treatment options for patients with progressive disease.

There are three (3) main steps to the procedure:

Step 1: Using the Balloon Sinuplasty system, the physician gently places a
sinus guide catheter and a flexible sinus guidewire through the nostrils to
access the target sinus. The sinus balloon catheter is then advanced over
the sinus guidewire.
Step 2: The sinus balloon catheter is positioned across the blocked sinus
opening and gently inflated.
Step 3: The Balloon Sinuplasty system is removed, leaving an open sinus
passageway and restoring normal sinus drainage and function.
