The massive outbreak of Covid cases in China put sounded alert in India
and force towards serious measures over fear of covid fourth wave in the
country. As already, positive cases of new variant reported and another

China which was first detected in India in October. However, the variant

said China is more vulnerable to the new variant because its people had
little exposure to it and no herd immunity.
Assessing similarities of Omicron variant BF.7 with the Delta
variant of Coronavirus, Vinay K Nandicoori, Director, Centre for Cellular
and Molecular Biology (CCMB) opined that the new variant may not be serious
in nature as Indians have developed herd immunity to an extent. He further
added India tackled with the Delta wave which was a big one. People in
large scale in the country have taken vaccination and later booster dose
for another variant Omicron wave.
Unlike China, India is different in many ways. Can not be panic that
is happening in China may not happen in India because of that, the official
said.After the Health Ministry’s advisory to States for sending the samples of
positive cases to INSACOG labs, on 20 December, India reported with 131
fresh infections, while the number of active cases came down to below 3500.
