The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned that scar tissue
surrounding breast implants filled with silicone or saline on rare
occasions may develop into cancer.
The safety notice was released this month based on a thorough examination
of the growing body of research on breast implants. Despite their
limitations, the results show small squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and
lymphoma instances in those who had breast prostheses.
