number of platelets in the blood drops, the person is on the verge of
death. Recently, researchers have revealed an alarming fact.
It is said that the dengue virus has evolved and taken a new form in India,
and a vaccine is needed by now to control it. The details of dengue virus
recorded in the country for the last 6 decades have been analyzed. Several
organizations are involved in this study. The researchers explained that
dengue cases have been increasing steadily for the past 50 years. In
particular, it has been revealed that the impact of dengue is high in
Southeast Asian countries.
As part of the study, the researchers examined four serotypes of dengue
virus. The extent to which these serotypes have mutated compared to their
predecessor variants was investigated. The details of this research were
published in a science journal.
IISC researchers analyzed 408 genetic sequences from Indian dengue
strains. These sequences were collected between 1956 and 2018.
However, a researcher has revealed that these sequences have changed in a
very complex manner rather than in an orderly manner. Scientists believe
that if there is uniformity between the first serotype and the second
serotype… the antibodies in the blood will effectively fight them.
However, once dengue strikes, the antibodies produced in the body provide
protection only for two to three years.
That is why the researchers believe that the latest research points out
that the vaccine is important to fight dengue.
