Soon, translucent solar panels could turn your windows into energy
generators. Scientists from Switzerland’s prestigious Ecole Polytechnique
Federale de Lausanne (EPFL) have created a novel type of dye-sensitized
solar cell (DSC). Researchers are making strides toward creating
electricity-generating windows that may be used to supplement the power
needs of houses and other buildings.

According to Euronews, the translucent panels transform visible light into
energy by using photosensitized dye on the surface of a semiconductor.
Transparent photosensitizers, molecules that can be triggered by light,
have been created by scientists and can “absorb” light throughout the
entire visible light spectrum, making DSCs independent of direct sunlight.
