Guard paramilitary group launched a new satellite-carrying rocket on
Saturday, state TV said, in an apparent show of strength in the face of
widespread anti-government protests.
Iranian state TV reported the successful launch of the solid-fueled rocket,
which it referred to as a Ghaem-100 satellite carrier, and broadcast
spectacular images of the rocket taking off from a desert launch pad into a
foggy sky. In the report, the area looked like the Shahroud Desert in
northeastern Iran, although the exact location was not specified.
