The European Union will join the G7 nations in putting a $60-per-barrel
price restriction on Russian oil, the Polish ambassador said Friday, three
days ahead of an E.U. embargo on imports by sea.
To punish Russia for its war against Ukraine and starve its military
funding, Poland had postponed accepting the approval of the plan. At the
same time, it campaigned for a lower price ceiling and additional solid
sanctions.
Poland’s E.U. ambassador Andrzej Santos stated, “We can formally agree to
the decision.” He explained that the other E.U. member states have agreed
to move through with a fresh ninth round of sanctions against Russia.
