An official in Kabul reported Thursday that the Taliban have banned women
from using gyms in Afghanistan, their latest decree restricting women’s
rights and freedoms since seizing power more than a year ago.
from using gyms in Afghanistan, their latest decree restricting women’s
rights and freedoms since seizing power more than a year ago.
In August of 2021, the Taliban seized power after an army sweep across the
country. Despite early assurances to the contrary, they have prevented
girls from attending middle and high school, limited women’s access to most
occupations, and mandated that they cover their bodies in public.
Since people have disobeyed gender segregation orders and ladies aren’t
covering their hair as needed, the Ministry of Virtue and Vice has decided
to implement this prohibition. Parks are likewise off-limits to women.
