The United States Sanctions Have Not Stopped North Korea’s Rapidly Advancing Nuclear Programs.

The United States has tried to pressure North Korea through economic
sanctions for years. Still, these measures have done nothing to curb the
country’s nuclear and missile programs or bring the isolated northeast
Asian state back to the negotiating table.

Instead, North Korea has strengthened its ballistic missile program and
conducted a record-breaking testing regime of numerous weapons this year,
including intercontinental ballistic missiles meant to strike the U.S.
mainland. There is speculation that it would soon lift a self-imposed ban
on nuclear weapon testing that has been in place for the past five years.
