defended the party’s decision to give a party ticket to the daughter of a
convict in the 2002 Naroda Patiya riot case, saying that she is a party
worker who is running for election on merit. Payal Kulkarni, 30, is a
qualified anesthetist and the daughter of Manoj Kulkarni, one of 16
convicted in the case relating to the 2002 post-Godhra riot in the Naroda
Patiya area of Ahmedabad district, in which 97 Muslims were killed. Payal
Kulkarni is running for the Naroda Assembly seat in the next election.
