To paraphrase Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister for Law and Justice, “Election
Commission of India is an independent and credible organization to decide
and hold elections in the country, and the government is simply helping the
electoral body in its activities,” on Thursday in Srinagar. The Chief
Justice of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, Justice Ali Mohd Magray,
accompanied Central Minister Kiren Rijiju on his visit to the village of
Hardkichuro in the southern district of Anantnag today. Rijiju was reacting
to comments made by Mehbooba Mufti, the former chief minister of Jammu and
Kashmir, in which she claimed that the Election Commission of India (ECI)
follows the orders of the BJP government. When asked by reporters why he
had traveled to such a remote place, Kiren Rajuji replied, “To deliver
justice to the doorsteps of people.”
