This is a historic victory for India. After nearly 58 years, India won the
gold medal at the Asian Badminton Championships. In 1965, Indian player
Dinesh Khanna won the gold medal in men’s singles. After that, India won
gold in doubles.
In 1971, the pair of Dipu Ghosh-Raman Ghosh won the bronze medal. This has
been India’s best so far in the Asian Badminton Championships, but it has
now been bettered by the Sai-Chirag duo. Meanwhile, this pair also won the
Swiss Open doubles title this year. Badminton Association of India
President Himanta Biswa Sharma showered praises on Sai and Chirag, who gave
India the gold medal in the Asian Badminton Championships. They get Rs.
20 lakh prize money has been announced.
