Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty continued their winning streak at
the Hylo Open by defeating the team of Yang Lee and Chen Lu of Chinese
Taipei.
The Satwik-Chirag team, winners of the French Open just last week, defeated
the Chinese Taipei team in 61 minutes, 19-21, 21-19, and 21-16.
After winning the men’s doubles event at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 with
his usual partner Chi-Lin Wang, Yang Lee partnered up with Chen Lu to
defend their title.
After a competitive first game, the Chinese Taipei team scored seven
straight points to force a defensive stance from Satwik-Chirag. The Indian
team made a valiant effort, but Yang Lee and Chen Lu held on to take game
one.
Again, the second game was a nail-biter, with rapid-fire point exchanges
between the two couples. In the nick of time, though, Satwik and Chirag
kept their cool and tied the score.
In the round of 16, the Indian badminton team will face off against the
English duo of Rory Easton and Zach Russ.
In the women’s singles category, Busanan Ongbamrungphan of Thailand
defeated Nehwal for the sixth time in a row. Busanan, the third seed, won
21-15, 21-8.
