Gujarat Titans and four-time winners Chennai Superkings will face off in
the first match of IPL 2023 at Ahmedabad. However, 3 key changes in rules
will be implemented in this IPL season to have impact on the matches.Of course, this is nothing new. The old system is being reintroduced
in IPL 2023 called as home and away format. All ten teams have to play 7
games at their home ground. For example, Chennai Super Kings will play at
Chidambaram Stadium and Royal Challengers Bangalore will play at
Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Each team is allowed 5 substitute players when presenting the playing 11
after winning the toss. One of these five will be an impact player. But not
a mandatory provision. Once transferred an impact player cannot return to
the team even as a substitute fielder. On the other hand, there is a rule
that an impact player cannot be an Indian unless there are lesser than four
foreign players in the playing 11.
BCCI has brought another key rule in IPL. After the toss both teams may
declare playing 11. The new rule allows the best team to play based on the
toss. The team fielded two teams during the South Africa 20 League. One
team is prepared for bowling and another team for batting. This means that
this new rule will greatly reduce the effect of the toss on the respective
teams.
And this time another change in IPL 2023 is DRS. No balls and wide balls
given by umpires will also come under DRS. That means there is a
possibility that the captain of the team will review the no ball or wide
ball given by the field umpire. As a result, no ball and wide ball disputes
can be reduced.
