After testing positive for an ADHD medication, Fernando Verdasco, a former
top-10 professional tennis player, decided to accept a two-month voluntary
provisional doping suspension, the International Tennis Integrity Agency
stated on Wednesday.
Verdasco, who turned 39 this month, said that his doctor had prescribed the
stimulant methylphenidate to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder
(ADHD). Still, he had neglected to renew his therapeutic use exemption for
the medicine. According to the honesty organization, Verdasco has been
given a permanent exemption from the World Anti-Doping Agency.
